Our Mission Statement
Our AquaDemics program is a multidisciplinary tutoring service that stands out in its ability to effectively engage and teach children. Since all our tutors are initially trained as Water Safety Instructors and Bronze Cross recipients, success and safety are central to how our tutors operate. The ability to make education a positive experience is what we do for a living and is certainly a skill that can be transferred from water to desk.

Our AquaDemics tutors (Aqua Essence WSI’s) cater every class to the individual student, acknowledging that there are many different types of learners. Additionally, we value the importance of the tutor-parent relationship. Just as Aqua Essence instructors provide feedback at the end of every swimming class, our AquaDemic tutors will keep parents “in the loop” after every tutoring session.

Not only can we say that AquaDemic tutors are proven to be effective teachers, but especially bright in the subjects they teach. Every AquaDemic tutor is required to show subject proficiency through a report card, transcript, etc. For example, an AquaDemic math tutor in Grade 12 would be required to have an 80+ in Mathematics (honour roll).
Our Story
Not only does Rishona Hyman (CEO of Aqua Essence) train her employees to be remarkable swim instructors, but she also gives them room to become leaders inside and outside the pool. Rishona achieves this work environment by encouraging her employees to do things they didn't think were possible and guiding them to see the humour, love and passion in what they do.
Rishona, Sam Kroft (Aqua employee of 5 years) and other Aqua staff went to recertify their Water Safety Instructor course at Sherbrooke Pool in 2019. Despite the Winnipeg weather of -30C, the spirits and laughs of Aqua Essence staff made it warm. As Aqua staff were coming up with Aqua Essence puns left and right, Sam jokingly suggested we create a tutoring business called “Aquademics”. Get it? … Like Academics? Immediately, Rishona and Sam both saw the pun as an opportunity. Aquademics is no longer a joke.
Rishona and Sam figure that the passion our instructors pour into their swimming lessons can surely be translated into a lesson in Math, English, French, etc. Our instructors are experts in finding different ways for children to succeed and are academically gifted in their respected fields of study. The “Aqua” in Aquademics will serve as a reminder that no matter what or where we teach, you can expect dedication, love and passion from us.

Finding a tutor who is suitable to your child’s needs can be a daunting and difficult task for many. In the AquaDemics program, we recognize this stressor and are committed to finding the perfect tutor for your child. AquaDemic tutors are required to show academic proficiency in the subjects they teach and must have experience working with children. However, the expertise of our AquaDemic tutors go beyond their transcripts. Our tutors are individuals with diverse interests, hobbies and personalities. Aquademics strives toward finding a tutor who brings out the best in your child through personable interaction and hard work. That is OUR commitment to YOU. In order to tutor in their subject of choice they have demonstrated through a school transcript that they excel in the subject and are indeed proficient. After every single 50-minute session, our tutors will spend 10 minutes taking notes, summarizing the session, and send out notes to both students and parents with what the action. plan would be for the next session (50 minute session+ 10 min of communication).
Flexibility
What separates Aquademics from other tutoring services is that we adapt. From teaching swimming, our tutors know that every child is different. Instead of exercising the same ways to reach success, over and over again, we create a lesson plan that is personally designed for your child.
Our tutoring sessions will be made available as an in-person lesson but also, over video call technology. During these unprecedented times, we also acknowledge that families are trying to find a routine that works for them. Whether it be over “Zoom”, “Google Meet/Hangout”, or an in person lesson (following Health Canada’s COVID19 protocall), our tutors will happily use the platform that you are most comfortable with.
Heart and Soul
It is imperative that we see your child succeed and that you receive a positive tutoring experience. There is nothing more rewarding than watching the success of a child. The Aquademics program looks to accomplish this goal anyway we can. An integral part of our program’s success relies on listening to you. We want to know the needs, strengths and weaknesses of your child. We want to know what their passions, hobbies and interests are. At Aquademics, we do not just tutor clients. We teach and engage children to bring about their academic success.
